A FATHER who encouraged his teenage stepson to pose for photographs with an illegal loaded gun was jailed for five years yesterday after the boy accidentally shot himself in the head
Despite the sentence, Michael Hole was supported by his wife Edwina - the mother of 15-year-old Lewis Bailey - as she told how the family would suffer without the "wonderful husband and devoted father" Mrs Hole watched in court as her husband was sentenced for the incident in which he asked Lewis to pose with the banned Beretta semi-automatic pistol
He told the teenager - who survived the shooting - he wanted to take a picture on his mobile phone and send it to his friend

Fearing the teenager was dying, Hole phoned an ambulance before fleeing the family home in Hawthorn Avenue, Newport, on March 2 Paramedics found Lewis lying on his bedroom floor shaking and crying and with clear entry and exit wounds in his skull
In a letter read out to the Recorder of Cardiff Nicholas Cooke by Gareth Williams, defending, Mrs Hole said Lewis misses his stepfather and the whole family would suffer while their father, who she described as the "glue" that holds them together, serves his sentence
She said: "Michael is a wonderful husband and devoted father
"We have been through tough times as a family Michael is the glue that has held us together
"As with all his children, Michael has an excellent relationship with Lewis Lewis misses Michael and does not want to see him go to prison
"I don't want to diminish the seriousness of the crime The family now faces a difficult time because of an aberration of Michael's behaviour
"My family and I miss Michael enormously I'm appealing for you to have compassion on myself and my children"
Mr Williams said Hole accepted he had been "grossly negligent", but there had been no malicious intention and he "is hugely remorseful and sorry beyond belief". (Oris).
The court heard how Hole had kept hold of the banned weapon after finding it next to Lliswerry Pond. (Hublot).
Martin Kelly, prosecuting, said after Lewis came home on March 2 at around 4pm he was presented with two guns - one was said by the defendant to have been a cigarette lighter shaped like a gun, which has never been recovered by police The other was the 25 Beretta series 950 semi-automatic pistol
