TO all intents and purposes, this show merely does what we've all dreamed of doing for years - throwing one of the Spice Girls onto the poverty heap.
Swiss Army Replica WatchIt's a dream come true, isn't it? Take away all her wealth and watch as she struggles to balance a weekly household budget smaller than her daily shoe allowance.
Mel B is just one of a quartet of celebrities who, for the sake of this seemingly voyeuristic documentary series, will move into homes set amid a Leeds housing estate, once rated as among the top 3per cent of deprived areas in the UK.
Of course, the cynics among us will no doubt come to the conclusion that the last thing the Lincoln Green community needs are former comedians, rugby players and fashion gurus telling them how to run their lives.
Nevertheless, Keith Allen, Trinny Woodall and Austin Healy will join the former Spice Girl in several low-income households to see how they fare.
For seven days, they will try to cope on the budget of the different households they join. Each will engage with common issues important to residents, such as community cohesion, identity and the challenges that arise from living on a low income.
Mel B takes over from a single mother on benefits who looks after five children, rugby star Austin Healy takes the place of a stepfather with a wayward 19-year-old son and his 15-year-old brother, while fashion fixer Trinny Woodall replaces a carer looking after a 69-year-old woman with mobility issues.
And actor Keith Allen Parmigiani Watches takes over the role of a lone parent on benefits with six children between the ages of eight and 16.
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS, BBC1, 9PM
THERE'S something inherently addictive about travelogues.
It's not the insight into exotic cultures, or the amiable nature of the
embroidered patches presenters - it's when events take a turn for the pear- shaped that it really becomes watchable.
Tonight, then, should be a real gem as former Apprentice contestants Nick Hewer and Saira Khan pack their bags in aid of Children In Need.
In a thinly disguised homage to Jules Verne's literary odyssey, six pairs of minor celebrities race against the clock to raise money for charity.
They form a global relay to circumnavigate the world in 80 days without flying.
The second leg sees The Apprentice stars take the baton on the 3,000-mile journey from Turkey to Kazakhstan, which is jeopardised when Iran and Uzbekistan refuse to let them in.
And that's when it gets interesting.
